Flagship Pioneering conceives, creates, and grows biotechnology companies such as Moderna, Sana Biotechnology, Generate Biomedicines, and Tessera Therapeutics. Each year, Flagship offers a sponsored Summer Fellowship to exceptional final-year PhD students and postdocs who want to help create the next generation of disruptive life science startups. This three-month, full-time programme provides a unique opportunity to apply your scientific expertise, entrepreneurial mindset, and creativity to develop new ventures in human health and sustainability.
Flagship seeks outstanding individuals and aspiring entrepreneurs from scientific, computational, and technical fields—including biology, chemistry, engineering, AI/ML, computer science, materials science, agriculture and climate science—who are eager to build first-in-category biotech companies from the ground up. As a Flagship Pioneering Fellow, you will work closely with experienced professionals through Flagship’s distinctive entrepreneurial exploration process, an intense, hands-on experience that could lead to the creation of breakthrough bioplatform companies.

This year we have exciting keynote talks planned from Philipp Hollinger (group leader at MRC-LMB and founder of Sortera Bio) and Steve Rees (SVP Discovery Sciences at AstraZeneca). A panel of leaders from the pharma industry joined us, including Jules Hernández Sánchez (Biostatistician at Roche), Manisha Naik (Director of Chemistry at MSD), and Andrew Buchanan (Biologics Engineer at AstraZeneca). Lastly, we had an exciting panel from start up leaders by Daniel Wigh (co-founder and CTO of ReactWise) and Andrea Dimitracopoulos (co-founder of Deepmirror).

This event provided a rare opportunity for insightful exchanges between students and leaders in life sciences and technology.

Speakers included Somaieh Hedayat, Senior Scientist in Bioscience Oncology at AstraZeneca; Pavlos Kotidis, Team Leader of Digital Data & Analytics at GSK; Katrina Budesha, Medical Clinical Operations Partner at Roche; and Antonio Ramos-Montoya, Associate Director in Bioscience, Oncology at AstraZeneca, offering students insights into making informed career choices.
